Home Portraits
Besides roses, one of my favorite things to paint are homes. I have also painted several churches and donated the paintings for fund raisers. I hope you enjoy my paintings of houses and churches.
This is an oil painting of a beautiful greek revival house that I did years ago. Unfortunately, I did get a very good photograph that time. The owners were very please to have this painting.
This is an acrylic painting of a friend of a friend's house. This was donated to a local charity fund raising event and now is in the home of one of our local physicians.
This painting is of the old Calvery Hill Baptist Church. It was donated to the church to raise money to build a new church. Guess I need to do another painting as the new church is now standing where this one was. My FB friend Mary Miller has this over her mantel.
There is a special story behind this painting. We used to live on an old country road up on a hill and this little church was on that road and I would pass it every day. So I was drawn to paint a portrait of it. The congregation only met every 2nd Sunday and there were only a handfull of members but I was impressed by the Lord to donate this painting to them. So I stopped by after church one Sunday when they were having services and gave it to the preacher who was an elderly black gentleman. He was so thrilled to get this as I am sure he was pastor there for many, many years. After I donated this painting, I sold five more paintings that year. How blessed I was!.
This is my most recent painting of the church that I attend now. I donated it for a fund raiser auction that we had so the youth pastor and his son could go on a mission trip to Peru. It now is in the home of our pastor as he was the highest bidder!
This is a winter scene of our barn when we lived on Cedar Ridge. It was always so pretty out there when it snowed This painting is now in the home of a very special Hospice nurse who came to my house to take of my sister when she had cancer. I will never forget her!
In our part of the country we have a lot of Amish and on one of my trips to their general store, I saw this mother and child and made a quick sketch. The rest I did from memory.
This painting is very special to me also. It is of a flower market in Lexington, Kentucky called Sunshine Grow Shop. My sister and I were shopping one day and stopped to eat at a restaurant right next to this place. We sat outside and I made a sketch of it and went home and started to paint it. My sister who is no longer with me, loved this painting, so I gave it to her. I could never sell this one. It will be with me forever.
